The City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Directorate will, tomorrow, appoint another group of inspectors for its Law Enforcement Auxiliary Service (LEAS). The LEAS began in 2013 and is a volunteer corps that has played a crucial role to support the ranks of the City’s Law Enforcement Department, the City said in a statement.
With nearly 500 volunteers who have to complete a minimum of 16 hours a month required as part of the programme, the need for direct supervision has resulted in the appointment of inspectors from within the volunteer corps. The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, will oversee the official welcome of the newest group of Inspectors from 14:00 until 15:30 tomorrow at the Metro Police Training College in Observatory.
