Learners and teachers at a school in Mpumalanga were left in shock, yesterday, when police officers shot a young man in his leg, on the school premises.
The injured youth, who is currently in hospital for treatment is a former student of Mmamethlake Secondary School.
It is believed that he allegedly attacked police officers who were called in to remove him, before they (police) opened fire on him.
According to reports, the young man was denied access into the school principal’s office and thereafter became violent, by throwing the schools windows with bricks.
In a short video, making it’s rounds on social media, the youth can be seen vandalising the school premises.
A police van arrives soon after, but the youth decides to turn his attention on the police, by throwing bricks at them instead. The police is forced to act with the aim of stopping the young man from continuing.
The former student was arrested and hospitalised soon after and is facing charges of malicious damage to property, and for attacking police officers, among others.
