The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service will host a demonstration of its newest acquisition – a rescue recovery vehicle, on Wednesday.
The primary function of the new vehicle will be to clear roads as quickly as possible after major motor vehicle accidents, particularly those involving heavy vehicles, the City said in a statement.
In recent years, Cape Town has experienced severe gridlock as a result of heavy vehicle accidents on the main highways.
The City explained that the newly commissioned Technical 03 recovery vehicle will be on hand in the future to address this.
The recovery vehicle is an Iveco Trakker 8×4 that comes with a Fassi F660 crane, two 30-ton hydraulic winches and a zacklift.
Mayor Dan Plato and Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, will be on site for a demonstration of the vehicle’s capabilities.
The demo will take place at Epping Fire Department, in Gunners Circle, Epping at 13:30.
