A hijacked victim who was found burnt to death in his car in Blue Downs on Sunday morning has been identified as a member of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF). The body of a 41-year-old soldier, who had been deployed to Cape Town, was found burning in a white Hyundai Accent on Silversands Road.
According to the Daily Voice, Mfuleni police on Monday tracked down and arrested a 43-year-old suspect, Theodore Loggenberg, who made a brief appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court this week. The suspect was interrogated, leading to the arrest of another 24-year-old man.
Loggenberg is charged with kidnapping, hijacking, and murder of the officer. The docket in court states that the victim was held in the car and driven around to different locations while he was still alive. The victim was also stabbed.
The SANDF has confirmed the victim was a soldier deployed to the Cape Flats and was found burnt to death in his car. The matter has been postponed as the suspects remain behind bars at this stage, the Daily Voice reported.
