As the national election draws closer, protests continue at this hour, following several others across the country last week. In Cape Town, more than 70 people gathered in Old Strandfonten Road on Monday to burn tyres, bringing traffic to a standstill in the early hours of the morning. The gathering that occurred shortly after 06h00 follows several other protests in Phillipi, Strand, and Blackheath, in the last few days, for better service delivery and land.
Law Enforcement and Metro police who were on the scene and managed to disperse the crowd after four hours confirmed that traffic is back to normal. They are still monitoring the area at this hour.
Reports of protest and burning tyres have also been confirmed in Ponte, Hillbrow and on the R81 in Limpopo. This is a developing story. An update will be posted soon. (Deen Times)
